A Few Days To Go Before The Big Bicycle Trip.... Ms. V. Goes to Washington!

Washington, D.C., dear reader.... not Washington State. :)

No need to be confused dear reader; remember that I changed plans and went to Silver Spring, Maryland (just a hop, skip and a jump from Washington) to spend time with my parents before heading to Savannah to start the bicycle trip. Boy am I getting excited!! I leave to go to Savannah on Friday, February 9th.

While I'm here in Washington though, I've decided to spend some time on Capital Hill. On Tuesday, I went to Jim McDermott's office. He is the Congressman that represents the seventh district of Washington State. Did you know that you can always visit your Representative's office? Congressman McDermott wasn't there, however one of the interns in his office (Alexis) gave me a full tour of the Capital. I got to go to the Capital Dome, and walk through the tunnel that connects all the offices to the Senate and House of Representatives. Alexis and I sat in the Senate chamber and listened to Senators talk about the war in Iraq. It was quite something to be there and I learned a ton.

I also sat in on a Congressional hearing about Iraq. Representatives on a committee asked a man who was once the ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Paul Bremmer, lots and lots of questions about what went on in Iraq when he was there. Check out the story that was in the newspaper the next day.

Well that's all for now, dear reader. I think the next time I write to you will be from Georgia. In the meantime, check out the newest addition to the blog: my bicycle route. I will add stops to it so that you all know where I've been and where I am going. Cheers!

Cait,

HA HA HA! Yeah, you're probably right. I should at least buy some stock in the company.

Cheers!
